My name is Anita James and I run Essentially Holistic. I have had my fair share challenges which led me to train as an aromatherapist with the Shirley Price International College of Aromatherapy from where I graduated with a distinction in July 2001. I have gone on to undertake training in other holistic disciplines including varios forms of Masage & Reflexology. I am a qualified Infant Massage tutor.
As an aromatherapist I have always looked at ways of incorporating aromatherapy into everyday environments. I have a particular interest in using aromatherapy with children. I have a vast wealth of experience working with early years children through nurseries and private work. In the nusery projects aromatherapy is used in the learning areas and with children who have specific needs, each receives a personalized blend for use in both the learning and home environments. Parents are also included in the programme with massage tuition being given for home use. I also work alongside the specialist support team to provide aromatherapy to special needs children.
I teach aromatherapy and related subjects on a freelance basis. I believe in inspiring learners through active learning and want them to go away passionate about the new knowledge they have acquired. In 2010 I will launch a post graduate course on using holistic therapies in educational settings and supporting families. I spoke at the 2008 IFPA conference in Cardiff about my work in educational settings and was subsequently invited to speak at the AIA conference in Chicago in October 2009.
I relax by doing Dru Yoga and reading. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, growing most of our fruit and vegetables on my allotment along with lavender, calendula and other medicinal plants. This year I have taken up beekeeping and now have 2 hives which have provided me with a very steep but fascinating learning curve!
