The 10 second rule

As I read the Happiness Project I’m really impressed by the simple ways in which Gretchen made everyday life easier to deal with. I loved the idea of the 10 second rule and I’m finding it’s something I use a lot.

Basically her thought was that if it takes less than 10 seconds to do a job i.e. hanging up a coat, putting books away, if you do it there and then things don’t pile up, leaving surfaces clear and accessible. It also means that things are in their proper place and you can find them again.

The other idea that I really identify with is having an empty shelf or space – it means there is always room for possibilities and space for new things to arrive.

You can clear space aromatically with blends of the following essential oils:

  • Cypress(Cupressus sempervirens)
  • Juniper berry (Juniperus communis)
  • Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)
  • Frankincense (Boswellia carteri)
