Hug a tree and love the world!

Hug a tree and love the world!

I often wonder were the term ‘tree hugger’ originated. To me it brings visions of brown rice, sandals, tie dye and peace symbols. Wikipedia defines it as ‘A slang, sometimes derogatory, term for environmentalists’.

Whatever visions we may have of tree huggers it’s something that we all should embrace in some way. Being aware of our own environments and displaying empathy with it and the people we share it with is something we should all work towards. Why not try smiling and saying Hello to someone you see everyday but don’t normally speak to! I love the YouTube film Free Hugs

In an attempt to understand my environment more over the last few years I have worked towards eating a ‘seasonal’ diet, much of it grown by myself or in the winter supplied by http://www.abelandcole.co.uk/ (mention my name if you use them and I get a free veg box!) . I am lucky that I live in a neighbourhood where we know each other and will always help out if someone needs you!

In my aromatherapy practice I am trying to use more seasonal oils in my blends. With this in mind I have formulated some blends that will help increase empathy and awareness of our environment and the people we share it with.

Blend 1 – Helping Hand

Equal quantities of:

Sweet Marjoram (Origanum marjorana)

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin)

Petitgrain (Citrus aurantium amara)

Blend 2 – Love the world

Rose otto (Rosa damascena)

Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides)

Frankincense (Boswellia carteri)

Blend 3 – Embrace your environment (Winter / Spring)

Pine (Pinus sylvestris)

Peppermint (Mentha piperita)

Green Mandarin (Citrus reticulata)

Until next time Happy Hugging!
