Gingerbread Recipe

Gingerbread Tree Decorations



350g Plain flour

1tsp ground ginger

1tsp ground cloves

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1tsp bicarbonate of soda

100g unsalted butter

175g soft brown sugar

1 large free range egg

4 tbsp golden syrup



  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180ºC / Gas Mark 5
  2. Mix together the flour, spices and bicarb on a bowl
  3. Rub in the butter until it resembles breadcrumbs
  4. Stir in the sugar
  5. In a separate bowl mix the golden syrup and egg together, add to the dry ingredients
  6. Mix with the hands to form a smooth dough
  7. Roll out on a floured surface to about 5mm thick. Cut into desired shapes. Add a hole in each shape t thread ribbon through
  8. Placed on a greased baking tray
  9. Bake for 10 – 15 minutes until golden brown
  10. Allow to cool, ice if desired
  11. Thread onto strings and use to decorate the tree
